Santuario Sierra Sagrada

We felt completely on our own. They don’t tell you the place is in the middle of a farm, a half-hour walk from the road. There’s nowhere to buy water or food when you arrive. The cleaning staff were lifesavers because we didn’t have a car. The rooms are run-down, unbearably hot, and have no ventilation or fans. We complained and got no response. At night there’s nobody around, so you’re on your own if there’s an emergency. There’s no management. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The hotel staff’s food and service were impeccable, and they tried to help us right up to the last moment. The sea is beautiful but fairly rough, with no calm spots for swimming with small children. The beach is 100% [unclear, possibly “low water”]. We didn’t feel safe or well looked after. There’s no full-time receptionist, the power cuts out constantly, and it seems especially unsuitable if you have young children. After an electricity problem, the manager refunded our booking instead of finding a solution or other way to help. They knew our round-trip transport had cost around $600,000 COP, but didn’t seem to care, and we lost that money. We left because staying alone there without a generator, a candle, and surrounded by toads and insects felt too risky. I wouldn’t recommend it for a quiet or pleasant holiday. Maybe someone who’s up for discomfort and adventure would enjoy it.

The employees were friendly and did what they could to sort out problems, but the facilities felt neglected. Some rooms had no soap, there was no beer for sale, food options were limited, and what we were promised wasn’t delivered. Pre-sale service was poor, with no quick response. They offered a supposedly special menu but served something completely different, and the breakfast menu they sent didn’t include even half of what they advertised. I was there with a group from an agency, and our clients complained. The place has potential, but they don’t seem to know how to make use of it.

The view is stunning, and the cook and caretaker did all they could to make sure we had something to eat. But the hotel feels thrown together, and the management offered questionable fixes without giving us real help. There’s a lot of potential here, but right now it doesn’t feel like a holiday destination. I felt lost there.
