When we got there, they said our reserved room had already been booked. They offered a room at another hostel with a different name and tried to charge us extra. They wouldn’t cancel the reservation, saying they’d mark us as a no-show in the app. That’s why I took videos.

I had to move out in the end. The location isn’t where they say it is, it’s a few blocks down an interior street, not on 17th Street, and the name on the property is different. The rooms have no windows, and the bathroom has no lid, among other issues. The people working there seemed friendly, but they don’t keep passenger records. As a tourist, I wouldn’t recommend this area either. It doesn’t even feel safe to go out at night.

The location listed is wrong, and the area feels very dangerous. The hostel goes by several names, including Hostel Allison and Casa Ley. I left because the facilities were deplorable and the room smelled of sewage. I had to pay for another place and an Uber. It was awful. When I get back to Argentina, I’ll report Despegar for giving it four stars. Don’t go, don’t go, don’t go!

Cartagena is expensive, so it’s possible to get a cheap private room here, though it’s shabby. It’s in a very local area, and you’ll need an Uber or motorbike to reach the main tourist sights. The neighborhood feels a little dangerous, so avoid walking around late at night. There’s a decent nearby place where you can eat for 100 pesos.
