The apartments here, including Maria's apartment, are nicely furnished and have good views, but staying felt like being in an open-air prison. Bringing over a friend for a beer was a whole ordeal: I had to send their passport photo to the host and wait a long time for registration. The host then insulted me by accusing my friend of staying overnight, which wasn't true. The saunas on the amenity floor were usually cold, too. Cartagena has plenty of other places to choose from. For peace of mind, I'd look elsewhere.

Apartment 7B has assigned parking and an amazing ocean view. Luzdari was an excellent, attentive host, and the stay itself was all good. I took off a star because having visitors is such a hassle. When a friend, his wife, and their two kids came to spend a couple of hours at the pool, I had to call the host, who then tried to get the owner's approval. We also had to send copies of their IDs or birth certificates and pay a 10k pesos registration fee per person. I understand the safety concerns, but there should be a quicker, better way.

Alex gave us a great local tour. He speaks four languages, and took us around the main gate, walls, clock tower, barracks, shops, and more. We learned about the architecture and the symbols linked to different occupations.

The balcony views were beautiful, looking out from both the front and back of the apartment. The building has a pool and a jacuzzi facing the ocean, and the security guards were nice. It’s near the walled city, about a 15-20 minute walk or a short taxi ride.
