Isla Tijereto

The staff were lovely, cheerful, and friendly. They spoke little to no English, but we managed. This is basic eco island accommodation, and the rooms are okay and fairly clean, although our towels and sheets had a few stains. The rooms are very simple and could use an update. There are only standing fans, so nights get hot, though that's part of eco life. There should be more sun beds, especially at the front where the water is calmer and clearer. The beach at the back has many more beds, but the water is rougher, the generator is noisy there, and there are lots of mosquitoes. We enjoyed the food, especially the Mojarra fish. Breakfast was simple but good enough, with arepas, eggs, fruit, and coffee. Walking around the little path at the back to Fragata Island House for dinner was a great idea.

Avoid this place. We paid for two rooms but never received the second one. The rooms were dirty, with bugs and flies everywhere. Food portions were stingy and didn't fill an average person. They also charge a steep extra amount for activities, like taking a boat to the main island.

The cook was nice and made very good food, but the hotel facilities were extremely basic. Water and electricity were often unavailable, which was especially troublesome at night when the fans stopped working. One of the shared bathrooms smelled bad, and rain leaked through the roof of one room. There isn't really a beach, just a concrete pier down to the water. The main problem was the owner, Virginia. There was no privacy; she watched and corrected us constantly. Be careful discussing payments with Virginie, too. We agreed at the start on 40000 cop per meal, but some dishes had gone up by half by the time we left. Beer at Mrs Virginie's place cost 9000 cop, the most expensive in Colombia for us. Even in Colombia's most touristy places, it was at most 6000 cop. If you decide to stay at this "hotel", agree on every payment in detail, or Virginia will squeeze you like a lemon. We were there with a larger group of friends. You can find transport to Isla Grande next to the hotel for half the price the owner quoted.

It's really peaceful and relaxing here, with two beaches, and the place is beautiful. The staff are helpful and nice. Highly recommend.
