Hostal Techos Azules - Hostel

Breakfast was yummy and included. We had a lot of fun relaxing in the hammocks by the pool. It was hard to find the hotel at first, and getting in at night felt a little sketchy, but once we were there it was gorgeous and peaceful, with beautiful views of the bay and access to the beach.

The staff were very nice, and the hammocks are awesome. They were so comfortable my wife wouldn’t come back to our room, so we spent the night in them under the stars. The beach is close. It’s an easy walk down and a bit of work coming back up, though after a good time at the beach you barely notice. Climbing over the rocks from the beach to the road up to the hotel is kind of fun. This was my second time in the area, and I thought this place was excellent.

Breakfast was decent, but there are much better places in Taganga for less money. The rooms were okay, though they weren’t worth the price. Getting around is a major drawback: you either pay for a taxi to Taganga each time or take one of two unsafe routes, one where you risk being mugged and another along a highway with motorbikes to dodge. There were problems with water pressure and electricity in the rooms. The so-called “deluxe” room is advertised as having a balcony, but it’s really a shared public area in front of the room. Check-in was a nightmare too, taking three hours because of a faulty system. They also had no way to offer compensation or take responsibility for the poor service.

For the hotel itself, the rooms, breakfast, and view were okay, but the price felt too high for the experience. The WiFi was poor and didn’t work in the rooms, and it was hard to communicate because nobody could speak English. The hotel is about a ten-minute walk from the beach, along the main road. We made the mistake of walking back from the beach in the evening, and some guys pulled a gun on us and tried to rob us. I wouldn’t recommend Taganga for tourists.
