Hostal Bremen - Hostel

We work online, so the fast internet and the covered green area with tables and chairs were a big plus for eating or working outside. The rooms are spacious and bright, the bathrooms very clean, and there’s a kitchen guests can use. Sebastian, the owner, is really kind, and it’s a great deal. The only thing is the music from the restaurant downstairs, which I guess the hostel can’t control. It’s a beautiful little place, only a few blocks from the new central plaza, and we’ll definitely come back. You can’t beat the price.

It’s a basic, old hostel with a cute look, and we liked it apart from a few issues. The showers were usually barely warm, with cold drops from a faulty pipe, and there are only two shared toilet and shower rooms for the dorm and four private rooms. Our room had no windows, just double wooden doors, which we kept shut at night to protect our valuables, so there wasn’t any fresh air while we slept. The bed had two flat sheets instead of a fitted bottom sheet. One barely covered the mattress and came loose overnight, leaving us on the mattress protector, which felt unhygienic. If the proper sheets were in the wash, they should have had spares. At 120 a night, that’s a lot to pay for this. There’s an amazing vegan restaurant in town about 2.5 blocks away.

The view from the backyard was nice, and people were friendly otherwise, but I couldn’t stay. The Argentinian and Russian volunteer couple were talking, kissing, and getting physical in their dorm bed about two metres from my head through the night and morning. They needed a private room or a tent to themselves, and seemed to have no self-awareness about it. I wanted to stay over a week, but felt too awkward to say anything and ended up changing hostels. What a shame. The washing machine was broken too, so I couldn’t wash my things.

It’s a colorful place, but the kitchen could be cleaner. Even with a very late check-in, they insist that you pay right away, and they tell you in a pretty unpleasant, forceful way. I won’t stay again. 👎
