Valu Eco Villa

The house needs maintenance and was in very bad shape when we stayed. Almost everything in the bathrooms was broken. One toilet was loose and leaking, leaving a large wet patch. The shower in the other bathroom leaked underneath the poorly fitted PVC floor, so my feet kept getting wet; the floor was in rough condition too. Over our month there, two taps, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen, broke three times. The house sits right beside a dirt road, and passing cars and trucks constantly sent dust inside. It was impossible to clean fast enough to keep it from covering everything. The worst part came after checkout. Nobody inspected the house when we left, but the next day the owner accused us of breaking several things that were already broken when we arrived. If you stay there, do your own careful inventory and document every damaged or broken item. The butler and his wife, who work and live there and maintain the place, didn't do a proper inspection, even though they have a long list of household items. It was left to us to make sure everything was counted and recorded. I'm not sure whether this was an organized scheme to rip off foreign tourists or just incompetence by the butler. Nobody came to check when we left, but they opened a case on Airbnb afterwards asking for an extra $100. That seemed super sketchy to me. At $2000 USD a month, it wasn't worth the stay at all. You can find much better places in the area for that amount.

The cabins are super comfortable, and the staff are incredibly attentive. It's pet-friendly, with plenty of room and a parking spot for each cabin. The jacuzzi is fantastic, and the amenities are just right, including a gas fireplace, water heater, and automated controls. The spot is on the Marinilla-Guatape road, before the dam, so it's much quieter and you avoid traffic on the way there. From the main highway, it's a short drive along a well-maintained road. Great for relaxing or a couples' getaway.
