Diez Hotel Categoria Colombia

The one thing this place has going for it is the location. We booked two rooms, one for my daughter and me and another for my son and his girlfriend, and the rates felt high for Colombia given how small the rooms were. The rooms were just okay, and so was breakfast. The mattresses were awful; they said they were replacing all the ones on the second floor, so they moved me to a room there. Noise was another problem: the walls are paper-thin, and you can hear full conversations from other rooms at odd hours. There was also lots of construction noise nearby. The repeated music on each floor got annoying, and the woman checking the bar candy in the morning was needlessly irritating. I wouldn't return.

The reception team spoke excellent English, though that was less true in the restaurant. We still found a way to communicate each time. Everyone on staff was courteous and very friendly.

We ended up checking out and missing the excursions planned for my wife's birthday because the hotel raised the rate and wouldn't honor what Juan had promised. We had asked to add two nights at Diez hotel. At the front desk, Juan suggested coming back in the morning for a better deal. I was worried the price might increase, but he assured me he would note it in the system and that it couldn't go up, and might even be lower. Since we had a 9 a.m. pickup for paragliding and other birthday activities, we got up, had breakfast, and went down just before we were due to leave to book the extra nights. The price had jumped way up. I explained Juan's promise, but they wouldn't keep it. We had to check out instead, which put us in a corner and ruined the birthday plans. Shame on this hotel.

The staff were super friendly, the rooms very clean, and the location is handy: half a block from Provenza's restaurant and bar strip, near Karol G's restaurant/nightclub, Mondongo for Colombian food, and shops, bakeries, and ATMs. The stay still had plenty of little frustrations. Rooms are small and the bathroom lighting is poor. A smoked glass door separates the toilet and shower from the sink, but offers little privacy. You only get one key card, and it has to stay in the slot by the door to keep the room lights powered. Your partner can't use the elevator to return without a card, and they won't give you a second one. The on-site choices are Sushi and Mediterranean, with little variety. There's no pool either, so this isn't the place if you want a cocktail by one.
