The Somos Bold Hotel

I don’t have a single negative thing to say. The hotel is affordable and safe, the rooftop is gorgeous, and it smells amazing when you walk in. The staff communicate well. I used their laundry service for a dress, and got it back in pristine condition the same day. Samuel was very pleasant while working the daily rooftop breakfasts, which were great. There are walkable restaurants nearby and a short rideshare takes you to the wider el poblado area. We stayed on the top floor and heard none of the upstairs music; the hotel is very soundproof. I genuinely felt sad checking out. Highly recommend!

Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the location made getting around easy. The hotel was clean and nice, and Maria went out of her way to sort out tours and rides to and from the hotel. It’s reasonably priced, too. You may hear some rooftop noise at night, though it quiets down after midnight. One thing to know if you’re sharing the room: a curtain separates it from the bathroom. I’d happily recommend it.

We had a very pleasant stay, thanks to the kind, helpful staff, especially Marian at reception. The rooms and service were clean, and the hotel is full of lovely plants. It’s in a great spot, too. We’ll definitely come back.

The design and atmosphere were a real highlight, especially the rooftop dining area, and the staff were generally quick to respond on WhatsApp. The dining team were especially friendly. We loved the location: restaurants are nearby, and the main parts of el Poblado are an easy walk away. It’s on the quieter side, which suited us, though Calle 10 may be a better fit if you want to be right in the action. The beds were comfortable, and once the AC was sorted, we slept well. The room itself was awkward to get around. It was long and narrow, with the bed right by the entrance and a ledge in front of the TV that left a tight gap to squeeze through. I bumped into it several times, especially at night. The bathroom had no door, just a thin curtain, and the glass shower and bathroom offered very little privacy. You could hear someone using it, and smells sometimes carried into the room. We also had practical hassles. The key cards often failed, and the front desk had to come help us into the room a few times. The AC was out for two days, so we didn’t rest well, although the hotel offered a complimentary meal as an apology. The shower temperature kept swinging from cold to boiling hot. After we reported it, we were told to wait a day for a repair. The swings became less severe after they said it was fixed, but the problem continued. Breakfast worked for us because we prefer something light, and the juices were delicious. There’s plenty of fruit, eggs, and yogurt, but not much if you want a more substantial meal. I wanted to love this place, but the infrastructure issues left me underwhelmed.
