Hotel Casa de Hadas

The breakfast was amazing, and the river location is great. I liked the room’s decor and furniture, though the walls and floor need work and felt dirty. The towels were stained, but the paid laundry service was satisfactory, and the air conditioning worked well. Most staff were unwelcoming. Ants were everywhere, and insects got in through the gap under the door. The two hotel dogs were unbothered as they roamed around, but could be loud at night and early in the morning.

The setting by the river was lovely, and we spent three nights sleeping peacefully to its sound. It was hot in Minca, so the cold shower felt good. Our room was spotless, and the maids offered to clean it each morning. There were colourful birds and hummingbirds at the feeders all the time. Breakfast came with the stay and had plenty of fruit, homemade breads to choose from, pancakes, waffles, eggs, hot chocolate, tea, and coffee. Their coffee was especially good, including the cappuccino they served later in the day. We had lunch and dinner at the restaurant too, and enjoyed it all. The nachos are worth trying, and the cocktails were excellent. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. They washed and dried our laundry for 10,000cop per kilo. There’s lots to do outdoors nearby. We recommend the Cacao Tour at La Finca Candeleria and hikes to waterfalls and viewpoints. We went without a guide and saw monkeys and dozens of exotic birds. Minca has plenty of nice bars and restaurants within walking distance. I’d definitely stay here again.

The price felt high for what we got. There was no hot water, the toilet was inside the bedroom so there was no privacy, and the bedding was really poor. A proper blanket would help. We could hear every noise, even the room shaking when people went up the stairs. Not a great stay.

Nelson made the stay especially enjoyable. He was enthusiastic, hardworking, welcoming, spoke fantastic English, and was great to talk with. The rest of the staff were cheerful and ready to help too. The hotel itself is fresh and modern, set beside a small river in a peaceful spot. The showers are cold, but refreshing. There’s a restaurant with decent coffee and food at fair prices. For the central part of Minca, I thought it was good value. Cafes and restaurants are a short walk away, and it’s easy to get around town.
