Hotel Marrokos

We landed at Medellin airport late in the evening and needed somewhere nearby. This was perfect, a gorgeous property with incredibly friendly, helpful staff. It was such a lovely welcome to Colombia, and I’d stay here again anytime I’m coming into or leaving Medellin.

The staff make Hotel Marrokos feel like a home away from home. They seem to anticipate what you need, and their genuine care and warmth make you feel looked after from the minute you arrive. They’re more like family than employees, and that attention is incredible. The grounds are peaceful and beautifully landscaped, full of flowers and other plants that bring in hummingbirds and butterflies. It’s a sight to see, and the calm feeling starts as soon as you step onto the property. This hidden gem gave me a warm embrace of a welcome. I can’t recommend it enough and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!! :)

Bravo is a brilliant dog, and the owner was lovely. I ended up in Medellin at midnight after flight trouble, and he welcomed me warmly at 1am. The room was clean and peaceful. Waking up to birdsong and having coffee surrounded by nature was the best part. I had to leave early for the airport, but I’d love to stay here again.

If you want a quiet place for an overnight stay, look elsewhere. The setting and landscape are beautiful, so it might be nice to visit during the day, but the night was a different story. It was Monday at 11 PM and the TV and speakers from the makeshift restaurant were blasting. The dog everyone loves barked all night for no reason I could see, and I couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep before my morning airport trip. My room had spiders on the wall and floor. I was so tired I just killed them without saying anything. The shower was cold and its flow kept changing. The shuttle was advertised, but Eduardo said he had to set an alarm to wake up and call a taxi, then never did. I also don’t understand the high ratings. Other reviews describe Eduardo as kind and a great chef, but I found the opposite. When I handed him my passport, he assumed I was Arab and laughed hysterically. I had no problem with the Arab assumption itself, but the laughing was baffling. You’ve been warned.
