There was little security here. The front gate was never locked, so anyone could come and go. Another guest made us uncomfortable too: he wouldn’t bathe, slept in the common areas, and urinated with the bathroom door open. One night he was yelling into his phone about going to jail. We messaged the owners on Airbnb to say how uncomfortable this made us, but got no reply, just a read receipt. We’d booked for a month, but left within a week. Our food was supposed to be stored in the kitchen, where mice got into it, and we had to throw it away. There was no offer of a refund. The owner then said we could put food in the freezer to avoid the mice, but the next day it had all disappeared. They said they’d look into it, but never told us what happened, even though a camera clearly had a view of the fridge. We bought groceries for a third time, spending over 60,000 pesos, and only got an offer of HALF a refund after we asked for one. I feel bad asking for anything, but it was disappointing that they didn’t offer compensation on their own, and we never received any. Then our room key broke inside the lock. When we messaged the host, she only replied with a sad face emoji. After 20 minutes without another response, we wrote again to say we weren’t comfortable leaving with the door unlocked and our valuables inside. She eventually said she’d send someone, but we’d have to pay for repairs. We hadn’t forced or been rough with the lock, but were still told it was our fault. I understand paying for a replacement if we’d lost the key, but blaming us for something that was clearly old and worn was ridiculous. It was a terrible experience. If you need a place to stay in Palomino, I’d strongly suggest avoiding this one unless you want to be responsible for its upkeep.
