The hotel is nice and the rooms are nicely decorated. They try their best, but there’s plenty to improve. The TV picture is poor, with only five channels, some in black and white and others fuzzy. There are two restaurants, but the food isn’t varied: usually just one daily option of fish, beef, or chicken. No pizza, hot dogs, pasta, or buffet. The pool is small for the number of tourists, and there aren’t many beach chairs; the ones available are far from the water. Drinks are served at a small, always busy kiosk, with long lines and only one or two people serving four choices: daikiri, nos vemos en el.piso, screw driver, and cuba libre. Water sports, shop merchandise, and food are hyper expensive. Scrambled eggs cost 27000 pesos.

The excursion pickup was chaotic. We were told to meet in the lobby at a set time, but didn’t get onto the car until an hour later. My family paid for a private car to Cabo de la vela for what was supposed to be a full-day trip, yet we were back by 3 p.m. They seem to be the only ones offering excursions there, but they don’t know how to get a quick, efficient pickup organized. The place feels isolated, with no maps around and no directions from staff to your room. I felt unsafe. Room doors don’t close properly, and everything is spread out, making it difficult for people who have trouble walking. They don’t provide beach towels. The beach is dirty and not good for swimming, and the single pool gets crowded. Its water is GREEN, the slide doesn’t work, and you can’t drink in the pool. The bar has only five drinks, and the guys serving look miserable. Workers stand around in groups in a creepy way. They don’t feed their own staff. Food is bland, and breakfast is the worst meal. The eggs are undercooked, I found hair in the fruit, mugs run out fast, and the coffee tastes like they put fuel in it.

The food arrangements were confusing and frustrating. As a vegetarian, I got conflicting answers from different people: some said I had to request meals ahead, some said they had no vegetarian food, and others said I’d have to pay at restaurants not included in the stay. I needed rice because of a gluten intolerance, but a few times they served pasta, so I had to buy food at the market by reception. Lunch and dinner were always the same meal during my short stay. It was advertised as a buffet, but there was just one set meal, mostly meat, rice, and plantain, with no choice and little variety. Vegetables and options for different diets would make a big difference. There were no towels in the room when we arrived. Other guests with us had fridges in some rooms, but we didn’t, and I don’t know why. We had no WiFi in our room, and many others in our group didn’t either. I needed it, and nothing said access might be unreliable or unavailable in some rooms. On the second night, our hammock had disappeared. We didn’t report it because we thought the cleaners would notice. It would also have been nice to have small bottles of shampoo and body soap. For one tour, I requested a vegetarian breakfast but got a ham and cheese sandwich instead. They suggested fruit because of my gluten intolerance, but I didn’t receive that either.

The food was bad, the lines were long, and the service was terrible. If you want a nice hotel with good service and great food, this isn’t the place. Honestly, I would’ve rather lost the reservation money and stayed home. I highly recommend doing that.

The location right by the beach is lovely, and the architecture feels high quality. Even in low season the pool was almost full, so I imagine it gets packed in high season. Food and drinks let the place down: there’s plenty, but the quality is poor. There are no vegetarian or diabetic options, and the drinks are extremely sweet. If food quality doesn’t matter much to you, you’ll probably love it. A playground for kids would also be useful.
