The neighborhood feels run-down and dangerous, and the facilities are quite poor. More seriously, they left my wife and me stranded at 7 pm on December 31, even though I’d booked several days ahead. They said they’d “forgotten” and had taken a more profitable rental instead. They later refunded my booking money, then told me I should be grateful and insulted me when I said I’d leave a bad Google review. They were extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Don’t book or stay here.

The person in charge of the hostel was very kind and helped with whatever we needed. Being right in front of the beach meant we could fall asleep listening to the waves. But the shared room and bathroom needed more cleaning. The sheets were dirty when we arrived, so we had to ask for another set to make our beds. The bathroom was dirty too, and we couldn’t use it much.

For this price, I think there are better hotel choices. There’s no private bathroom, and they don’t provide things like soap or towels.

Hostel Ocean View in Riohacha was a real disappointment. When I arrived, the reservation price had suddenly doubled, which felt very unprofessional. The staff are nice, but they don’t seem concerned with your comfort or how your stay is going. The rooms aren’t cleaned, and the shared bathrooms are filthy and often missing basic things like toilet paper or hot water. It seemed like the staff would rather sit around chatting than clean or improve the guest experience. I can’t recommend it.

The beaches are usually almost empty, so it’s a peaceful spot for a family trip. Don Nelson is a wonderful host, and the stay feels like great value. I also felt it was very safe for children.
