Ecohotel Piedemonte

The scenery is lovely, and there’s plenty to do nearby. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was simple but good if you’re trying to lose weight. We booked the expensive room with a Jacuzzi, though the facilities felt below par for European prices. The bathroom was especially basic, the plumbing could use work, and with humidity this high, a heater for drying clothes and towels would have helped. Still, it’s a nice place for a few days if you’re fine with simple conditions.

I came to ask about a room and spoke with Juliana, the manager. We agreed on a price for a week, and she took my passport while arranging the room and check-in. As I was having tea, she said the owner wanted 50% more because of Semana Santa. She said she’d made the mistake as an individual, not as the hotel’s manager. They then withdrew the price, even though she legally represents the hotel and, as I understand it, verbal agreements are binding in Colombia. Juliana soon left, saying there was an emergency. The whole thing felt dishonest and in bad faith. A very upsetting experience.

The setting and facilities were beautiful, and the food was okay. The hotel also had hot water in the shower. But the room had problems: the planks under the bed were too short and fell out when we got on it. Staff came to help, but didn’t set them properly, so they fell again after they left. The internet was unreliable too. I know the hotel was busy, but compared with other places in the Zona Cafetera, the staff here were less welcoming and kind. That made a difference for us. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

A perfect spot beside a stream, tucked into nature and so peaceful. My room was very clean, the staff were great, and the showers had hot water. Breakfast is included, and they provide bug nets if you ask. Dinner and laundry are available for small extra charges. Absolutely amazing place!
