Hotel La Casa de Francois

We’ve lived in Colombia for two years and only just found this beautiful part of the country. We spent three superb nights here, with gorgeous grounds, excellent food and service, and a lovely hotel. François knows the area well and was so helpful. He helped us plan our time exploring San Agustín and arrange a horse riding tour. This part of Colombia deserves a visit, and François’ hotel made a great place to stay.

The steep hill and partly dirt track make getting around a drawback, especially if you have mobility issues. You’d need to be comfortable taking taxis whenever you want to head into town. The cabin itself was lovely, and the setting is beautiful and calm. The food was good and fairly priced, and Francois was a great source of information about Colombia and helped arrange excursions.

The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly with really good service. Still, after two days here, I couldn’t get online at all, and the noise at night was unbelievable. Dogs and chickens kept making noise all night. One thing to know: the dorm is directly above the kitchen, so it’s noisy and smells like food all day. Otherwise this came close to a five-star stay.

I planned on two nights and wound up staying five. François was full of useful advice and could help arrange whatever I wanted to do around this beautiful region. Everyone was lovely, too. When you don’t feel like going into the village for food, the restaurant has nice homemade dishes. Thanks so much!
