Decameron Marazul - All Inclusive

The staff were the one good thing. They were amazing, kept the hotel very clean, handled all the complaints professionally, and worked hard despite having limited resources. Even so, I can't recommend the place. We paid a premium and felt ripped off by the poor conditions. It badly needs maintenance. The AC didn't work, there was no water for about 6 hours, and the power went out twice. We weren't given towels, and the room had broken lights and door handles. The gym equipment couldn't be used, and there was no beach as advertised.

Our stay was awful, and the facilities were poor quality. The beach photo can't be trusted, and this isn't a place to stay. It's all-inclusive, but lunch ends at 2:30 and check-in is at 3, so you have to pay for that first day. They don't hand over the rooms until 6 PM, even though they charge you for the whole day.

For the price, this was awful. Our room smelled like a sewer, and they wouldn't move us to another one. They said it was a drainage problem.

We were treated terribly by 95% of the staff, especially when we tried to order without speaking Spanish. They ignored us in favor of Spanish speakers or made fun of us. One young bartender laughed and told me, “your spanglish is silly.” Two people were kind: our housekeeper and a bartender named Guadalupe. We arrived with family and friends, but didn't get a room until 5:40pm, even though people who came after us got theirs first. The pool lifeguard whistled at us and talked down to us like children. There was no hot water in our rooms, so we took cold showers for a whole week, and some of the dated rooms were dirty. As I loaded our suitcases into the taxi after checking out of this nightmare “resort,” I heard the bellman say “give me a dollar” three times. I didn't engage with that unprofessional behavior, which fit what we'd seen from the staff. I would never recommend this place because of how inappropriate and unprofessional they were.
