Hostal Dona Manuela

The courtyard tree and the building’s old architecture are lovely, but my two-night stay at Dona Manuela was a real letdown. I booked after seeing the glowing reviews and photos, and I’m still puzzled by them. The room looked nice, though the walls had patches needing paint and some lights didn’t work. The pool was dirty, the bar never opened, and breakfast was stale bread with slimy fruit. Basic things were difficult. The main entrance stayed locked, with the key held by staff, and there was no buzzer, so you had to hope someone was around to let you in. Getting water or a drink was hard, and staff couldn’t answer simple questions like where the bus station was, even though I was speaking Spanish. They were also so loud in the morning that I thought a private party was happening. I’m not someone who expects fancy hotels or a lot of extras, but I was very disappointed. I hope they get things sorted out.

The hotel is attractive, but I couldn’t find a map or get guidance on what to see and do in Mompos. Breakfast was also very mediocre, and the pool wasn’t clean.

The location made sightseeing in Mompox easy, right opposite la orfeveria local. I loved the peaceful, welcoming hacienda, with its blue pool, pink bedrooms, and colourful hammocks.

I'm glad I brought my dad along. The place was so beautiful.
