The quiet setting was a big part of what made my stay worthwhile. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the beach, and I was fine with the rough streets on the way there. The hotel itself is beautiful, with the character of the private villa it used to be before becoming a hotel seven years ago. For the price, I think it’s the prettiest place to stay in Taganga. My room had cheaply made furniture, some of it partly broken, and rain leaked through the walls. The TV was very pixelated and didn’t work well because the internet was so unreliable. That made working remotely tough, since I came as a digital nomad. There was no regular room cleaning either. In a week, they cleaned once, after I asked four times. I can understand that some of these problems come with a rural, remote location, but the hotel isn’t a good fit if you need reliable internet or tech. The peaceful atmosphere and lovely property still made it feel worth it to me, especially if you’re after a rustic, luxurious escape.

The pool was clean and really nice, and our room had an amazing view when booked with the sea view. But the stay was very unpleasant. The music was so loud from our first day that we couldn’t hear each other, work, take calls, or talk to family. We asked them to turn it down, but it happened every day. If you’re hoping to relax or work, forget it. We also found mouse droppings around the rooms and in reception, which made me worry about waking up with an extra roommate. On the morning we left, we asked for the coffee included with breakfast, but they had run out. One arrogant guy told us to go buy it ourselves because they still had hot water. We complained to the manager, and he eventually apologized, but there was still no coffee. For context, my partner and I both speak Spanish fluently. Getting to the beach and restaurant areas takes about 15 minutes on a very rocky, rough path where it’d be easy to twist an ankle. And there was no hot or even warm water in the shower during any of the four nights we stayed.

The worst part was how the concierge treated me. I checked with reception and was told I could cook in the open kitchen, so later I heated food in the oven. The concierge then got angry and spoke to me in Spanish, being passive aggressive and not listening when I explained that another worker had given me permission. I tried to show him, but he ignored me three times and kept swearing as if I wouldn’t understand. He never apologized. Another worker said the manager would come the next day to sort it out, but nobody showed up, and the concierge acted like nothing had happened. Customer service was 0/10. There were other problems too: cockroaches came out of the shower, the water was cold, the shower head was broken, and there was a lot of mold next to the bed. The balcony door wouldn’t lock, so anyone could get in. The hotel is well outside the city centre, with about a 15-minute walk to the nearest beach along dirt roads full of garbage. When I first arrived, the place looked pretty good. The large open lounge with couches was too hot to enjoy because they didn’t turn on the AC, even with all those glass windows.

Definitely the cleanest hotel room I’ve ever had.

The hosts were really friendly, and I was grateful for their hospitality. It was so peaceful here, with a clean, well-maintained pool. Breakfast was homemade and really tasty.
