Historic House Hotel

Cockroaches in every room. Avoid this place. The shower floods if you use it for more than 10 minutes, and barely any water comes from the bathroom sink. The reception guy, who was probably the owner, called it a "new Hostel," but the place is run down and needs renovation. The "Deluxe Room" wasn't what we booked, either. A refrigerator blocks a window, so you can't shut it at night and insects get in. The shiny, photoshopped pictures didn't show the reality. We found out the next day that a cameraman had been used for them. After just one night, we felt ripped off and wanted our money back. But at checkout there was nobody at reception to hear our complaint. Be careful, they only take cash and don't accept credit card payment through Booking. They probably do that so people can't complain later.

There was no A/C, and the bedroom was 35 degrees at night. The bed was bad.

The staff member who helped us was very kind, and the location isn't bad. But the room really needs work. There was water on the bathroom floor when we arrived, and a strong, unpleasant damp smell. Our booking said exterior views, but the window faced a corridor, so no air came in. The ceiling fan didn't do its job either. They let us use the refrigerator, which was helpful. There were ants all over the room, even in the bed.

The place is nice and quiet, and reasonably priced. The staff were the friendliest I've ever met at any accommodation, especially the woman at reception who had only started there the week before. I had food poisoning and couldn't get out of bed, and she did my shopping and offered to help in every way. You can't take that kind of kindness for granted. I highly recommend it!
