The hosts are welcoming, and the small hostel is clean and comfortable. It’s inside Tayrona National Park, with access to Neguanje and Playa de Cristál. A car is recommended if you want to make the most of the beaches here: the walk from the hostel is too long, while public transport is very expensive for tourists, whether you take a motorcycle taxi or the shared taxi that only runs once a day.

Birdwatching is possible right from the hostel, which sits in nature inside Tayrona National Park. There are beautiful beaches and great trails nearby, too. The food was absolutely delicious, the place was impeccably clean, and the service was excellent. One of the best stays I’ve had, highly recommended.

If all you’re after is a beach stay, this spot on the Santa Marta side of Tayrona works well. There are several beaches nearby, including beautiful Cristal Beach, reached by boat or by walking from Neguanje Beach, a trip of about 45 minutes that’s worth it. The area itself is dry, with little to see beyond the beach, so I’d stay on the other side of the park to explore more of Tayrona. Santa Marta center is about a 30-minute taxi ride away. The accommodation is basic: no hot water, and breakfast is just toast, eggs, and coffee from a thermos. Don’t expect anything special. Wi-Fi is available, but I could only get a signal at reception, where breakfast is served. The price doesn’t match the quality or what I expected from this part of the park.
