I was the only person on the tour, so it felt almost private. Natalia was fantastic and led the whole thing in English. I’d messaged them on whatsapp the day before, which was easy. I came to learn about the Muisca people, how they lived, and how they used the Astronomical clock, and really enjoyed it.

The guided tour gave us useful context before visiting the park, so I’d suggest going here first. It’s right across from the El Infiernito archeological site, and well worth a visit. Natalia, who I believe is a director, led it with Maria, who covered the astronomy. They used a model of the solar calendar or observatory to explain how the Muisca may have used the site, then showed us artefacts, a replica dwelling, and information about the site’s history and the Sol Muisca project. The presentation was in Spanish, though some English is spoken and some of the posters are in English too. They offer telescope observations from 7.00-9.00pm, but it was too cloudy for us to try them. This is a review of the museum and experience, not accommodation.

The guide speaks English, and the stories are really interesting. I recommend the tour. You get to learn more about the musicas and their history, and see things from their daily lives.

I was hoping to tour the rebuilt temple to the Sun, which was destroyed by the Conquistadors in the 1500's, but the place was closed. It’s across the road from the ancient Muisca Observatory, also known as little Hell. Worth a visit if it’s open. Here are some pic of both places!

The overview of Muisca archaeology and history was explained well. It was great to see young people promoting it with so much passion. Apparently the evening star sightseeing sessions are totally worth it.
