I arrived in Costa Rica on a day off for Easter and couldn’t find any food. Arthuro and his family, who live in the area but don’t work at the hotel, offered me a drink while I waited for the owner and helped translate. After only an hour of knowing me, they invited me to eat with them. I didn’t speak any Spanish, but they were lovely, kind, and helpful. A big thank you to them!

The second day, we visited Manantiales, a lovely private pool about five minutes away, with several pools including a natural one. We stayed here for a couple of nights with family and liked how intimate the place felt. There were plenty of spots to sit and relax or chat, lots of trees and birdsong, and Wi-Fi across almost the whole property. I brought my laptop so we could watch a couple of movies at night.

The place was very grimy, and electricity wasn't working in most rooms. Dead insects on the floor made it seem like the rooms hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I wouldn't recommend it.
