Villa El Tucán

The walk around the property down to the river was a highlight, and the lush, well-kept grounds drew birds throughout the day. In the mornings, the birds woke us up, which we welcomed. Our children loved relaxing in the hammock on the patio and swimming in the pool after our outings. Breakfast was delicious and the service was impeccable during our two nights. Villa El Tucan was our first stop on the trip and a memorable one. The beautiful, peaceful setting put us at ease right away, and we were sad to leave. It was one of the calmest places we stayed in all of CR, a real hidden gem. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxed stay surrounded by greenery. We hope to return. Pura vida!

The property was peaceful and perfect for unwinding. It’s brand new, fully equipped, beautifully kept, and spotlessly clean. Nilla and Stephane gave us such a warm, personal welcome, and their genuine friendliness made the stay special. They were also glad to share local tips and help arrange excursions. Breakfast was delicious and had plenty of variety. We’d happily return if we’re in the area again, and highly recommend it.

We slept better here than at any other hotel in Costa Rica. It’s about five minutes from town along a dirt road, so it was quiet. The four rooms are separate little buildings, spotless, bright, modern, and new. You get privacy while still being near the neighbors and dining room, which makes it feel cozy and safe. The couple who own El Tucan greet you, prepare meals, and do everything they can to make your stay a good one. The food was delicious. Highly recommend!

The birdlife was the standout for us. From beside the pool we saw several kinds of hummingbirds and three Tucan species, including 14 Tucans in one tree. We also enjoyed bananas from the garden, some of the best we’ve tried. The property has four villas around a garden, with a short trail leading to a river. Our room was immaculate, and Stephane and Nillareth were attentive to everything we needed. Dinner was tasty and good value.
