Casa Moabi

We spent a week at Casa Moabi and got attached to the four dogs and cat. The owners were kind, friendly, accommodating, and full of useful ideas for things to see and do. It was easy to walk down to the beach. The jungle setting was so peaceful, with the sounds of animals in the morning, hummingbirds and morpho butterflies around us, and monkeys often visible from the back yard. A tranquil little paradise surrounded by Costa Rica’s natural beauty.

Wildlife and the rainforest were the magical part. Green poison dart frogs, monkeys, sloths, giant butterflies, toucans high in the trees, and fireflies close by at night were all there to see. At 5am each morning I walked through the dark forest with a light until sunrise, watching nocturnal life give way to the dawn chorus. Playa Chiquita and the Caribbean Sea are a ten minute walk away. The Canadian couple who own the place were extremely helpful and knew the area well. I’d definitely stay again. I booked this atmospheric jungle accommodation for most of our family holiday, taking a chance, and everyone enjoyed it. I can only speak for the three inner rooms in the main building, not the treehouse style structures around the garden. Our rooms were enclosed against the bugs and generally comfortable. Air conditioning and fans were essential in the sticky heat. The shower failed to get hot three times in two weeks, the only thing that went wrong. Wifi was good enough for a bit of remote work, and the large kitchen and comfortable common area had everything we needed to cook.

The owners and staff were so friendly and helpful, and made me feel welcome. I spent ages playing with the cats and dogs, and the beds and hammocks were comfy. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the beach and some really yummy restaurants. There’s great wildlife right on the property. The casa feels like paradise, peaceful and beautiful, with the jungle right outside. I relaxed so well here and will stay again when I’m back in Costa Rica. Hopefully I can bring some friends next time.

Breakfast on the patio came with views of monkeys and hummingbirds in the jungle. You can make your own food or grab something at the nearby soda, and rent bikes for very little. Good beaches and a gym are close by. The owners treat you like family and helped with booking tours. Excellent stay, I’d definitely come back.
