The pool was a highlight, especially at sunset, and the grounds are gorgeous if you love plants. We also really appreciated how kind the family running the place was. They went out of their way to help us get around without renting a car. Our room was huge, with its own little kitchen, and the air conditioning was a nice extra. It’s tucked away from the main drag, so it stays peaceful, but everything is still about a 10-minute walk. I’d definitely come back.

We planned on staying just two nights, but wound up there for 11 because we liked it so much. Bamboo river house felt like a little oasis, and the accommodations were surprisingly affordable for what we got.

Birds in the morning and tree frogs at night made the setting one of our favorite parts. The bungalow was just right for the two of us, and the nature around it is beautiful. We were there for a week in August and would happily stay again. RJ and Ryland were great about local tips and making sure we had what we needed. The WiFi worked well for Zoom, and the walk into town along Calle Barú was shorter than we expected and felt safe.

The pool was a great extra, and it was a treat to have warm water, which isn’t always easy to find in Costa Rica. The rooms were clean and roomy, with plenty of space to relax. From the time I arrived, the owner was warm and welcoming, so I felt at home. I’d recommend Bamboo River House Hostel for its friendly feel, spacious rooms, warm water, and pool.
