Apartamentos Caligo de Osa

Richard, who manages the place, reached out before we arrived and basically organized everything for the whole stay. He arranged an airport transfer for less than I could find anywhere else. He also has connections at Sansa, the local airline, and managed to cancel my non-refundable flights without a fee. The apartments are nicely positioned: far enough from the village for peace and nature, but close enough to go out for dinner or walk to swim in Drake Bay. It's a nice 20 min walk.

The setting is on a hill about 20mins from the beach, which is a hard walk back up in the midday heat. Cooking utensils were dirty and covered in mold, the building was under construction, and the three rooms face the forest. We didn't see wildlife, though it seems possible. There was no sunlight in the rooms and no common area to hang out. Richard and Kendall were friendly when we arrived and communicative beforehand, though they pushed tours pretty hard. Things went badly when we mentioned that the pillows were moldy. My sister is very allergic to mold and reacts strongly; she lives in Costa Rica for half the year, so we understand the humidity and were only asking if there were other pillows. Kendall got upset and stormed around, saying he would wash them again with the "smelly stuff." Then he came to me separately and said my family was homophobic, which couldn't be further from the truth. The whole thing felt weird and aggressive. While we were away from the room trying to figure out our options, I noticed they had listed it for rent again. I asked richard if they would refund us after making us pay cash on arrival. He said no, claiming we had checked out and forfeited our five days of rent. WE NEVER CHECKED OUT. They are theives, took our money, and said we couldn't return to the room we'd paid for. We were forced to find another place in a very remote area.

Richard and Kendall were so helpful and nice, and the apartment had loads of space and everything we needed. It was a great spot for a walk into town, while still feeling immersed in nature and away from the bustle. I'd definitely stay again. Thank you!

Corcovado was the highlight of our few days at Caligo de Osa: Richard and Kendall arranged a guided jungle trek by boat to Sirena station, snorkelling off Cańo island, and an overnight stay with a Ranger guided hike at beautiful Tamandua Biological station. The nearby beach and gorgeous setting were lovely too. Our hosts handled all our planning with care and professionalism. An absolute gem in our Costa Rica itinerary! Paul & Phillipa
