Hotel Magic Mountain SPA & Conference center

The jacuzzis were unpredictable, swinging between too hot and too cold, and our bathroom door hit the bed when opened. Minor annoyances, but worth mentioning. The rest of the stay was lovely. The location is close to everything yet quiet, and the morning volcano view is unbelievable. The pool area was clean and relaxing, and the hotel had a calm, welcoming feel. Staff were lovely, especially Hector from the cleaning team, who was so kind and friendly. Breakfast had plenty of variety and really fresh fruit. Info about local tours made planning easier, and the nearby restaurants were amazing if you’re not doing all-inclusive. Plus, the little baby kitty around the hotel is the cutest thing ever. I’d definitely come back.

It’s right off the main road, near shops and restaurants, and close to downtown La Fortuna. There was always a security guard at the gate, which made us feel safe. Our room was spacious and came with toiletries, a small fridge, and a coffee maker, but no microwave. The buffet breakfast had lots of fruit and pastries, plus an omelet station. It ends at 9:30AM, and we enjoyed it very much. The whirlpool hot tub was amazing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We felt very welcome and had a great stay. I highly recommend it when you’re in town.

The courtyard and pools are beautiful, and you can see Arenal easily. The wine selection was good, but the food was mediocre, and the restaurant staff seemed inept and untrained. I never saw a manager overseeing things. The place itself is beautiful, but it feels cheaply built and should be a 1-star hotel. The deadbolt didn’t work, the rain shower had its soap dish on the windowsill, there was only one electrical outlet available, and no microwave. The AC remote was impossible to figure out, and the TV had no English-speaking channels. The channel guide was frustrating because changing channels took a while. Soiled toilet paper had to go in a small trash can instead of being flushed. Ownership is independent and not accountable to quality standards. I’ve managed hotels and restaurants, and it may only survive because nearby hotels are booked while this one has rooms available.

We were there during a busy period and the hotel was fully booked, but the main pool area never felt crowded. There are both hot and cold pools, which was nice. The beds are really firm, the one downside. Rooms were very clean, breakfast was decent, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Be sure to book a breakfast time slot. It’s a good, simple place for a few nights, near plenty of good restaurants and sodas, about a 15-minute walk from the Sloth park and Bogarin trail. Ubers can take you anywhere, and the hotel arranged a private driver to pick us up from the airport and bring us to our next hotel. Would recommend.
