Loma Real Hotel and Hot Springs

We liked the wildlife around the property, and there are a few restaurants within walking distance if you don’t mind a bit of an adventure. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and breakfast was simple but good. The rooms were comfortable and well kept, especially the shower, which had hot water and amazing pressure after a long day out. The hot spring pool was incredibly relaxing and refreshing. Most activities and sights are about a 10 to 15 minute drive away. We spent two nights at Loma Real Hot Springs B&B at the start of our Costa Rica trip and had a great stay. Excellent value, and we’d absolutely come back.

The upper pools were out of order when I visited in Oct. 2025, but there are two more down the hill to enjoy. The place is close to Arenal National Park and the most beautiful waterfall in Costarica. Rooms were clean and comfortable, staff were very helpful, and breakfast was tasty, with three options. The pools have hot spring water, and there’s a lovely direct view of the Arenal volcano. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

The breakfast, with fresh fruit and warm pastries, felt like something from a fairytale garden. The service was cheerful, genuine and quick. Everything here seems designed for comfort, from the silky bedsheets to the quiet hallways where all you hear is a soft rustle of wind and your own breathing. It felt like real inner calm and tranquility. What more could you ask for?

After driving for more than five hours following a full day of travel, my sister and I reached Loma Real Hot Springs B&B at 9:00 PM. The host/co-host “Roy” told us they were overbooked and had no room for us, even though our reservation was paid in full and confirmed well ahead of time. That was grossly irresponsible. Neither the host nor Airbnb took meaningful responsibility. The alternative places suggested were far away, isolated and unacceptable. We were not offered an equal or better replacement, or full coverage of the expenses. Because of this, two women were left stranded in a foreign country after midnight, exhausted and stressed, driving around to find somewhere safe to sleep. We spent more than three additional hours dealing with the host and Airbnb support to solve a crisis they had caused. It showed complete disregard for guest safety, basic accountability and human decency. Airbnb’s allowing hosts to overbook without immediate, enforced consequences is reckless and dangerous. This sort of failure can ruin trips and put lives at risk. Airbnb needs to hold hosts fully accountable by immediately securing and paying for comparable or better accommodations, issuing full refunds and seriously penalizing hosts who do this. This was one of the most stressful and unacceptable travel experiences I’ve ever had. I strongly warn others not to trust this host, and to be aware that Airbnb may leave you stranded when something goes wrong. The next morning, Airbnb had locked my sister’s account, so we couldn’t book anything through the platform. They provided no update or solution, just a pathetic “reimbursement.” I was trying to get an answer and resolution, so I contacted Airbnb’s CEO. I understand he isn’t directly at fault, but it’s his company and he needs to act to prevent this absolute nightmare.
