The only snag was the airport shuttle. The website says it’s available on request, but it doesn’t start running until 07:00. Otherwise, the staff were friendly, the lobby restaurant was great, and I liked the new hotel and rooftop pool and bar. The area felt very safe, with shops and a Starbucks in the parking lot, plus car rental companies within walking distance.

The room was good quality and we all enjoyed dinner, but the shuttle situation was frustrating. I found out at check-in that it only starts at 7:00, even though the website and app say there’s a complimentary airport shuttle on request. Neither says it isn’t available around the clock. I had to choose between a $20 taxi and risking missing my flight, since I was told to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours early. The hotel arranged the taxi, but the information still felt misleading. Friends stayed at other nearby hotels without this restriction. We spent one night here after a week in Monteverde, choosing this Marriott for its airport location and because the property and restaurant looked nicer than the other nearby Marriott options. The shuttle works if you have a later flight or don’t mind paying extra for a taxi, but I wouldn’t choose this hotel for it otherwise.

The broken coffee maker was another issue. Water went into the overflow section instead of my cup, and I worried the maid would have a big mess to clean up. I told the front desk at checkout, so hopefully it gets fixed for the next guest. The hotel itself was nice, and most of the staff were pleasant, but I was told 5 days ahead by email that my Nightly Upgrade Award (NUA) had upgraded me to a room with a terrace. At check-in everything seemed fine, then we got to the room and there was no terrace. We carried our luggage back down, thinking they’d given us the wrong room. The front desk said they were "full" and couldn’t give me the terrace room after all. They called a room on the 4th floor my new "upgrade," which wasn’t something I cared about or would have used an NUA for. I had to ask 4 times about getting the NUA refunded. Only after the fourth time did the woman at the desk check with her manager and tell me I’d get it back. I hope so, but I only have her word so far. If they’d explained at check-in that the confirmed room wasn’t available anymore, I wouldn’t have been as bothered. Pretending nothing had changed and hoping I wouldn’t complain didn’t feel like a good way to treat a loyal Marriott customer. Be careful about the room type and make sure you get what you’re charged for.

The staff were helpful and kind, and there are food trucks on the property with lots of different cuisines. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it when in San Jose. It’s close to the airport, very clean, and has a great vibe. The rooms, restaurant, bars, and pool area all look really nice, with great decor.

I always stay here when flying in and out of San Jose Costa Rica. The hotel is clean, the people are friendly, and the area feels super safe. It’s close to the airport, with a good court full of food trucks. The food is great, and there’s even a Starbucks at the location.
