Jaguarundi Lodge

Wildlife was one of the highlights. We saw howler monkeys, a toucan, an armadillo, capuchins, and plenty of agoutis and coatis around the grounds, as much as anywhere else in CR. The cabin was comfortable, the shower was excellent, and the amenities felt right for the price. We also loved walking through the forest to breakfast each morning. It's a short stroll to cafes, restaurants, and bars downtown, while the stay still feels immersed in the rainforest. This isn't priced like a luxury hotel in Costa Rica, so the cabins aren't at resort level, but we thought the experience was amazing. I'd hesitated a bit after reading negative reviews, but our stay in early January was a trip highlight. A great, affordable choice if you want an intimate nature stay.

The on-site trails made an already great stay even better. We loved this jungle lodge, with its wood rooms and authentic feel, and the sunset view was incredible. It offers a real sense of being surrounded by nature while keeping downtown La Senta easy to reach. We were initially disappointed there wasn't a restaurant on site, but breakfast and happy hour at the fig restaurant in their partner hotel more than made up for it. If you're into hiking, birding, or nature, this place is for you. And if you're not, why are you in monteverde??? Seriously, it's incredible.

The rustic little cabins felt perfect for a jungle stay, and falling asleep to rain and wildlife was so peaceful. We found the lodge centrally placed for reaching Santa Elena and other destinations. The staff, including Jorge, went out of their way to make our trip special. Our only complaint was hearing the neighbors through the pretty thin walls. We had the best time in Monteverde!

The rooms were cute and suited the jungle setting, and the staff were lovely to talk with and very accommodating. Breakfast at the Ficus hotel came with amazing views. Since you're surrounded by wildlife and the rooms have tin roofs, light sleepers may want earplugs. It was a lovely stay in Monteverde.
