We stayed in the “Sloth Room,” which was just the right size for a couple or small family. The outdoor kitchen and porch were a real bonus, and we spent many happy hours having cocktails and watching the sunset from different viewpoints around the property. Kristen and Brady were great hosts, with plenty of local tips about activities and places to go. Kristen is an AMAZING massage therapist, and I'd really recommend a massage or a private yoga session on your porch. We definitely hope to return. Soul fire casitas lives up to its name. It's up on a mountain just outside Montezuma, looking over the jungle with the ocean in the distance. The town, beach, and several restaurants are all less than half a mile away, so you can enjoy some quiet and still be close to things to see and do. It feels unique and like a true Costa Rica experience.

Our best stay in Costa Rica, truly. The cabins have a lovely wooden feel, and the kitchen and barbecue area are well equipped. The beds are super, super comfortable, too. For the money, it's incredible value. This place is a gem in south Nicoya. The quiet natural surroundings have a special atmosphere and make for an exquisite experience. The staff are kind and helpful. What more could you ask for?

I only found Soul Fire on the day we booked, and it turned out incredible. The owners were welcoming and made room for us at the last minute. Little monkeys greeted us as we arrived, and the grounds were lovely. The casitas were just right, with amazing views. I had one of the most peaceful nights of sleep ever. I was so disappointed we had to leave early, but I made my partner promise we'd return next year.

After driving one of the most impassable roads we've ever encountered in Costa Rica, we reached the hotel exhausted at 2:55 p.m. for a 3 p.m. check-in. At 3:15, nobody had shown up. Worried we might be waiting hours, we looked for another hotel that could take us urgently. After we found a solution, the owners lied to Booking.com to make us pay cancellation fees. They kept claiming they had been there, even though we spent 20 minutes alone on a barren mountain with no water, internet, or food. Maybe staying would have been even worse.

My favorite part of Costa Rica was this stay. The hotel rooms are charming and nicely equipped, and the breakfast terrace has an incredible view. Special thanks to the couple who run the place for being so kind and helpful.
