Jodokus Inn

It felt like a little slice of paradise, with beautiful gardens, a calm atmosphere and delicious breakfast each morning. The owner designed the property with great attention to detail and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. We couldn't have asked for a better stay, and highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway.

The house is incredible, full of handmade wooden pieces and thoughtful details. The kitchen is handy for making your own meals and fruit juice, the host was very welcoming, and breakfast was perfect. The view is stunning, and it's a great option if you're after nature and have a 4X4. But it's a long way off the beaten track from Montezuma, about a 15-minute drive on very dodgy roads. A 4X4 is essential on every route in. There are lots of insects, which we hadn't prepared for, and shoes aren't allowed upstairs, so you have to dodge hundreds of ants on the floor. Not a nice experience. There's no A/C in the room, and the toilet has no door, which is awkward. If you're looking for a hotel close to Montezuma's amenities and beaches, this isn't the place.

This might be the best all around stay I've had, and I've traveled a lot. The surroundings, the place itself, the energy, the host, the facilities and services were all 10 out of 10. It's a wonderful spot to settle into nature and slow down. You can pick fruit from the garden for a morning smoothie, hear monkeys howling in the trees, and see plenty of birds, animals and butterflies. I loved waking up early, sipping coffee and watching the sunrise over the ocean. Each room has its own fridge in the kitchen, and every morning your host makes sure it's stocked with enough for a lovely, nutritious breakfast. The kitchen is very well equipped with all the utensils you need to cook. Ype goes above and beyond to make your stay as good as possible. The property is a little far from downtown. I was traveling solo without a vehicle and worried it would be a problem, but looking back, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. You feel remote in the best sense while still being close to the crowds in town. I either walked and enjoyed the surroundings, or, for one outing, I'd recommend walking to town at least once and stopping at the Beer Brewery

Jodokus inn is a fantastic house, and the photos don't really show how good it is. It's spacious and open, with indoor and outdoor areas that flow together nicely. The grounds are gated and feel very safe. Our room was fine, and the shower has solar hot water that works really well, but you also get to use most of the house, including porches, patios, the kitchen, trails and gardens. Howler monkeys were right in the trees in front of us when we arrived. We heard them every morning and evening. Ype is a great host, knows a lot about the area and speaks several languages. We found him interesting to talk with, too. The place is very quiet and peaceful, yet just a five-minute drive from the Montezuma restaurants and beach.
