I felt safe traveling solo here, and the peaceful atmosphere suited the natural surroundings. Astro Boutique Hotel is quiet, just off the main strip, and the on-site restaurant’s food and presentation lived up to the hotel’s standards. The recent remodel is clear in the quality doors and windows, crisp linens, polished tile, and well-sealed bathrooms, all useful in a tropical climate. It’s modern, clean, thoughtfully designed, and very well maintained. This feels intentional and well built, not like a tired “rustic” hotel. Book directly with the hotel for the best available rate.

The room was thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of storage, hooks, and places to hang wet clothes. I liked the rocking chairs on the private balcony and the coffee in the room. The grounds are lovely, though it’s a bit of a walk to Playa Pelada, so a car or tuk tuk is useful. Staff were warm and well intentioned when I could reach someone, and they let me check in early without charging extra. For a rate of 400 plus a night, the hotel’s service and operations fell short. The place seemed understaffed. I appeared to be the only guest, and reception was empty much of the time. I often had to use WhatsApp, and replies commonly took six hours or more. On my first night I had to change rooms because of a serious ant infestation. I know it’s the jungle and bugs happen, but this was more than that. Meanwhile, the restaurant had a TON of staff, most of whom were SOOOO nice. My biggest problem came at checkout. I have medication that needs refrigeration, so on my first night I gave the hotel ice packs to freeze. I clearly told them when I was checking out and was assured it would be fine. In the morning, only kitchen staff were there, and no one could find the packs or a manager. They searched and tried to help, then sent me off with large bags of ice. With my limited luggage allowance, I had to leave personal items behind to make room. The ice leaked, soaking my bag and wetting my laptop, which thankfully seems okay, as well as other travelers’ belongings. About six or more hours later, after I’d been traveling all day and was already far away, they messaged to say they’d found my ice packs. I appreciated the apologies, but each came with an explanation or excuse, and the disruption to my travel day was significant. It also felt as if the restaurant was the main focus of the business. I understand that, but if the hotel can’t reliably look after overnight guests, it should limit bookings or price rooms differently. One other thing left a particularly bad impression: I saw someone in a senior or specialty role speak quite unkindly and condescendingly to an older server over a small mistake. The staff were kind and accommodating when present, the room was well designed, and the grounds were lovely. But the inconsistent availability and lack of attention to detail made the stay feel far below what I’d expect at this price.

The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared each day, and it added a lot to our stay. Chanil and the restaurant staff took such good care of our group. Chanil went out of her way to make things work, and everyone with us praised her kindness, attentiveness, and professionalism. She’s a real asset to the team. Astra’s beautiful property made for a peaceful visit, and we had an incredible time. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch experience in Nosara.

The rooms are spacious, and the beds and pillows were really comfortable. Every room has a balcony, and there’s a saltwater pool and a big parking area too. The service at Hotel Astra was excellent. I’d definitely recommend it and will come back next time!

The staff were a highlight, especially Chanil, who helped with everything, and our breakfast server each morning. Everyone went out of their way to make the trip memorable. We loved the breakfast that was included each day; it was one of the best meals of our whole Costa Rica trip, and we looked forward to it every morning. Astra Hotel was clean, with beautiful grounds and a great room. Its location made it easy to explore Nosara while still feeling like a quiet, private retreat.
