The relaxed feel and friendly team made our stay at La Negra lovely, and the food at Lola restaurant was delicious. They even made an off-menu smoothie bowl for breakfast when we asked at 8pm. My daughter and I spent over a week there, and the indoor-outdoor kitchen was handy between surf sessions, with all the basics for making our own meals. The beach decor was fun, and the pool looked beautiful. Its water felt more refreshing than the 30C ocean. Julian and Nina were helpful with advice, and when our private shuttle was late, Julian quickly called to find out what was going on.

Playa Guiones was just a short way off, which made it easy to get in beach and surf time. We found La Negra Surf Hotel clean and comfortable, with rooms that were carefully designed, practical, and still cozy. From our welcome by the owner and by Nina and Julian, we felt looked after. They were friendly, easygoing, and glad to help with whatever came up, with that “Pura Vida” spirit. It was a lovely, authentic stay with a real surfer feel. We’d gladly return and recommend La Negra Surf Hotel to anyone visiting Nosara.

The staff made our first Costa Rica trip especially easy. They talked through adventure options with us, then arranged zip-lining and kayaking, plus airport shuttles and tuk-tuks around town. They took care of everything we asked for and often did more than we expected. The other guests included several people who’d stayed at La Negra before, which said a lot about the place. We had a blast around Nosara, though relaxing by the pool was also a great way to spend downtime. A trusted friend had recommended La Negra Surf Hotel, and we were glad we listened. The beach was five minutes away on foot, Lola was right on site, and Surf School was beside the rock-bottomed pool, with instruction starting there. The bed was literally the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve slept in. All of it made for a happy visit, and we’d want to come back.

La Negra is right beside a path to a prime surfing beach, and I had a fantastic stay there. I’m an intermediate surfer and booked Juan Carlos’s five-lesson package. He helped me improve my angled takeoffs and turns on the wave face. For one session he even brought a videographer, then went over the footage with me afterward. I’d recommend Juan Carlos to surfers at any level.

Juan Carlos gave amazing surf lessons! We also loved staying at La Negra. It’s about as close to the beach as you can get, the staff were really nice, and our comfortable room had a great outdoor patio and hammock area. The pool was just right for cooling off in the afternoon heat. ❤️🏄🏼♀️🤙🏼
