Sunset del Mar Beach Front House

The resort has a lovely setting, right on the beach, with beautiful exterior areas, lush vegetation, and a pleasant atmosphere. It's a pity those things are overshadowed by poor upkeep. The pool was very dirty, and the overgrown plants by one of the beach exits seemed barely tended. The sofa in one of our rooms was extremely dirty too. We stayed 11 nights in two rooms, and room cleaning was minimal. It mostly meant making the beds and changing towels, when towels were left for us at all. A few times they were simply forgotten. There were visible floor stains, but no proper mopping during our stay, and on the day before our last, cleaning didn't happen at all. Room 105 was especially bad. Its TV didn't work, the entrance door was so difficult to open that we'd spend several minutes trying to get in, and neither the bathroom ventilation nor the window worked. At night, an unbearable bathroom smell spread through the whole room. We joked that it stayed dirty because the staff had trouble getting inside too. Breakfast was served à la carte, which was fine, but three days into our stay they told us fruit would no longer be served in the mornings. That was disappointing at a beach resort. The place has potential, but I wouldn't choose it even for a short visit, let alone 11 days.

The ocean views are breathtaking, and from our room it took only a minute to step onto the sand. Still, our stay was just fine, and the upkeep was poor. There was green algae on the pool bottom and little bits of garbage floating in the water. The beach chairs and cushions were dirty, as were our room walls, and the room had a cracked tile. Housekeeping was poor and the towels felt gross. The bar and patio had garbage scattered around, overflowing bins, and several string and fan lights that didn't work. The food was very average and overpriced. My wife and I spent a lot of the trip talking about what we'd fix. The owners need to give this place a serious overhaul.

We only stayed one night, and got a bottle of nice wine as a welcome gift. The room was spacious, clean, nicely decorated, and well equipped. The location right on the beach is prime, and we saw lots of beautiful animals around the property, including many macaws, four sloths, and squirrels. Breakfast was included and à la carte, with one item to choose from, though I wouldn't call it generous. The pool area needs renovation, and the furniture there is quite old and looks shabby.

The beach is wonderful, and the hotel's location is amazing. The staff were also very nice and helpful, and our room was clean. But the place urgently needs refurbishment. Everything feels old and is falling apart, and the restaurant is overpriced. I wouldn't recommend staying here. 🙏
