When my husband got sick, the staff were incredibly kind. Jonny brought him a bowl of soup, and also arranged a tour for us after our original one fell through. The people at Awa were the kindest hotel staff we’ve come across. We liked the beach loungers, though swimming right there was a disappointment. The tide was high, there were big rocks just offshore, and recent heavy rains had left branches and debris in the water. We took a taxi to Punta Uva, about a mile away, where the water was clear and the sandy beach was lovely. Awa is beautiful and right on the beach, with good food and an excellent breakfast buffet. We especially enjoyed the fresh juice and pour-over coffee each morning. Our room had a balcony with an ocean view, but the lights shone into the room until reception closed at 10 pm. The atmosphere, location, and customer service made the stay for us. We’d highly recommend Awa beachfront hotel.

The massages were the main reason we came for the day, along with the beach, and that’s why I’m giving two stars. My husband had a very good massage from an experienced masseuse. Mine was done by someone very young and clearly inexperienced. At $100 per person, I’d expect the spa staff to be fully trained before working with paying guests. The location is beautiful, the design and décor are excellent, and the setting in the jungle feels special. We spent the whole day there on comfortable sunbeds, tried the food and really liked it, and the service was good. What let the place down was the beachfront cleanliness. There were food wrappers, other trash, and pieces of wood left after the overnight rain. For a place presented as luxury and priced that way, I expected an organized staff to clean the beach each morning. The setting has a lot of potential, but cleanliness and spa service need serious improvement to match the luxury image.
The staff made our vacation even more special. Dinnier and Nahuel at the beach bar were super cool, while Jonny, Alma, and David were always friendly and helpful. Moises was great at spotting monkeys and sloths 🦥 around the property and pointing them out. The customer service started before we even arrived in Costa Rica. Christopher was amazing about replying to my emails and arranging airport transportation. We hadn’t visited this part of Costa Rica before, and the vibe was different and really chill. I was surprised by how many visitors were from Switzerland and Germany, and it was nice meeting people from that part of the world. The setting is beautiful, and we’ll definitely visit AWA next time we’re on the Caribbean side! #PuraVida
I’ve stayed at the aWa Beachfront Hotel twice now, and both times it felt special from the moment I arrived. I love the peaceful beachfront setting, the atmosphere, and especially the people who make this place what it is. I’ll happily come back again and again. The rooms have a lot of character and feel thoughtfully designed. You can tell the details were chosen with care. The whole team is warm, genuine, and attentive. Ange, Dinier, and Eric deserve a special mention, though every staff member helps create that welcoming feeling. You feel more like a friend coming home than a guest. Breakfast is another treat, fresh and clearly made with love. Starting the day with good food and smiling faces is a joy. I absolutely love this hotel.
Everything feels well cared for, and the beautiful atmosphere and setting make it a great place to relax. Brendal at the beach bar deserves a special thank you for the amazing service. He was friendly and kept checking that we had everything we needed.
