Ara Ambigua Lodge

Bayardo made the night tour so much fun. He was enthusiastic and really good at spotting wildlife: we saw two two-toed sloths, one three-toed sloth, a bullet ant, two opossums, a kinkajou, and lots of frogs. We had a great stay at Ara Ambigua. The rooms sit separately among a beautiful garden, with paths connecting them, and ours had a very big bed. Highly recommend!

We heard our neighbours very clearly through the thin room walls, though the rooms themselves were comfortable. There was lots of wildlife around the hotel grounds, which are beautiful, and both pools felt super tranquil.

The frog sounds were my favorite part of checking out the little pond beside the restaurant. Our server suggested we look there and even lent us a light. I spotted a couple of frogs. He spoke good English, which was a bonus. The restaurant itself was super nice, with tasty food and portions big enough. We came back for breakfast too. It was an $8-per-person buffet with pancakes, and very tasty.

The rooms are roomy, and the lodge sits in a lovely tropical garden with hummingbirds, frogs, and even caymans. For this category, though, I’d expect warm water at the tap, a safe, and a fridge to be standard.
