Selva Verde Lodge

Our room faced the river, with a peaceful view and a soothing sound that made it easy to sleep. We booked one night as a stop on the way to Tortuguero for a friend’s 65th birthday, and it felt like a little paradise by the river. The staff were top notch and even brought out a sweet birthday cake with a candle. The food was very good. The property has beautiful varnished wood floors and covered walkways. Be sure to have breakfast while watching all the birds feed on the fruit. A toucan and a deer joined in too. We’ll be back!

We barely had enough time to explore the property, and I wish we’d had longer. The grounds were stunning, with so much wildlife to see, and the river was beautiful. The birds at breakfast were so cool. The restaurant on site was delicious, and they even made a cute dessert for my mom’s birthday.

There are lovely grounds and lots of chances to go birding. The rooms are spacious and clean, though fairly basic. The bartenders were great, but the cafeteria food was nearly inedible. We didn’t try the Italian restaurant, though we heard it was decent.

We were here for a bird trip and saw many, many birds on the grounds and nearby. The rooms were very clean and the grounds beautiful. I was surprised the hotel has only three stars. I’d give it four.
