Playa Blanca is one of Costa Rica’s loveliest beaches, but you can’t access it freely here. They’ve restricted entry, which I understand is illegal, and shut down the Pirata parking lot, leaving only very expensive parking. It’s a shame to see Costa Rica sell off its natural treasures. I didn’t stay at the hotel.

We paid 310,000 colones for two nights in the hotel room, which felt expensive for what we got. At the beach restaurant, the food also seemed overpriced, and the shrimp fell short of our expectations. The beach itself, though, was absolutely beautiful.

The place is huge, so there’s a shuttle you can call to get around. It has two beaches, an enormous pool, pools for kids, walking trails, yoga, and a butterfly garden. Our room was clean and well maintained, and the service was good. I was less impressed with the restaurants, which didn’t feel as upscale as they were made out to be.

The pool was lovely, but the hotel is about 1.5 miles off the main road. We felt stranded, and getting to Jaco and back cost 70 dollars.

Punta Lenoa felt like a peaceful little escape, with clean beaches that worked well for families and a lovely community feel. The setting is eco-friendly, and there’s plenty of nature to watch and explore. Food choices were good and varied too. A great spot to reset from the rush of everyday life. For a moment, time seems to stop.
