Isla Chiquita Gampling

We only came for dinner, and the food, service, and setting were all fantastic. It’s one of the best spots around, with food that feels a step up from most places nearby. Getting onto the boat at low tide meant wading through the water. My kid fell and cut his leg on an anchor by the shore, so a few extra lights there might help. On the way back, though, we got a bioluminescence tour for free.

I told the hotel I couldn’t make our two-night booking because there had been a death in my family and I was grieving. I gave them two weeks’ notice, but they still charged the full amount, over $730, and refused my request to waive the stay. That felt like robbery. Don’t stay here.

The sea was great for swimming, with only a slight current and very small waves, and the tents were really luxurious. My family and I had a wonderful few days here. The location is fabulous, and the food was amazing. Prices felt competitive, so I didn’t feel overcharged. The staff were such lovely people and made the place special. Thanks for a memorable stay.

It really did feel like we had our own island, with hammocks and lounge chairs spread across the beach and kayaks and paddleboards we could take out whenever we wanted. The staff were kind and great, especially tour guide Josue, who knows so much. Everywhere had a thoughtful feel, from the restaurant’s local ingredients and produce to the water dispenser tucked inside a tree stump. The whole island is calming and magical.
