Hostel Plinio

Our private room and bathroom were roomy, and we had plenty of space to spread out. We’re more casual vacationers than backpackers, and still had a great stay. The views were beautiful and the place felt cozy. Excursions can often pick you up right at Hostel Plinio. You can hear just about everything outside through the windows, as other reviews mention, but that seems true everywhere and isn’t a Hostel Plinio-specific problem. There are also quite a few steps on the way in. They were manageable day to day, though our big suitcases made them harder.

The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and with some effort this place could be nice. But our private room was very basic and felt a bit gross, and the kitchen wasn’t clean. The worn, really dirty couches made us uncomfortable in the shared areas and need replacing.

The location was the biggest problem for us. The hostel faces a main road, and cars could be heard all night, so it’s a poor choice if you want to sleep. It’s closer to Quepos than Manuel Antonio, with no beach within walking distance and no practical walk to Manuel Antonio town. The pool also looked old and dirty, not inviting at all. We’d been expecting a hippie, backpacker feel, but there wasn’t really a common atmosphere. The reception staff were helpful and the kitchen was large and clean, though someone took food from the fridge. Our room had uncomfortable beds and ants. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Seems like a decent last-minute choice if you need a place by the road. The dorms are pretty middle-of-the-road. One night a guy woke up and peed in the middle of the dorm.
