Issimo Suites Boutique Hotel & Spa - Adults Only

I booked a honeymoon suite with an ocean view, a loft-style suite for $800, seven months ahead. At check-in, we were put in a basic room that was half the size, with no ocean view and no loft. When I showed the front desk my booking confirmation and said they’d made a mistake, they insisted that was the room booked. It wasn’t. The room we got was half the price and half the size. I’ve kept photos of the room we received and the one we booked, so I have proof. I’ve read reviews from other people who had the same thing happen, and it makes me think the hotel does this often. I felt extremely ripped off. Do not book here. Update: The hotel replied saying it was a misunderstanding about “preferences,” so I’m adding photos of the advertised and confirmed room compared with the one we actually got. This wasn’t a preference. We booked that particular room seven months in advance. It wasn’t a minor layout difference or an issue with a special request. Our room was 30 square meters, not 60, had no advertised ocean view, was not loft-style, and was not the luxury honeymoon suite we paid for. It was also half the price. At check-in, we showed the front desk our confirmation and were still told nothing could be done because the booked room was “already occupied.” I encourage future guests to carefully screenshot their booking details before arrival. Or save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere. To be honest, this hotel doesn’t compare with the others nearby.

The price was steep for us: we paid $1280CAD for the basic room for two nights in early December, more than we wanted to spend, but YOLO. The room was beautiful and clean, with a towel swan waiting when we arrived. There was an ocean view over the greenery, and a monkey and her baby came to greet us. Room 105 was right by the restaurant speaker, so it was a bit loud. They stopped the dance music and played Latin music instead, which made for a better atmosphere. The service was exquisite. Carlos gave us personalized service we won’t forget, and the owner introduced himself and brought a bottle of Prosecco. We really felt appreciated. The food was delicious and professionally prepared. We had dinner there both nights, and the included breakfasts were plentiful. Pricey, but I highly recommend it for luxury accommodations.

Watching the monkeys around the property was a special extra on an already great stay. We stayed at Issimo Suites for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. The service was fabulous, and staff went above and beyond, even remembering our favorite drinks each afternoon. The food was delicious, the massages were so relaxing, and the location was fun and convenient. Highly recommend it for a romantic getaway!

The monkeys and lovely views are right outside, but that was about the only part of this hotel we liked. The rooms felt dated, and ours had a sliding door with a wide gap even when shut, so plenty of creepy crawlies got in. For the price, the amenities were poor, and the restaurant food, though decent, wasn't what I'd expect from a luxury place. The bigger problem was safety. The downstairs stairs were uneven and oddly sized. My parents' room had steps leading from the hot tub into the shower, with no rail or warning. Steam made them slippery, and my father fell and fractured his collarbone. Later, while we were in downstairs rooms with guests around us, the hotel suddenly installed hardwood floors using very strong-smelling glue. We were exposed to the fumes without a choice. Management took no responsibility for any of this. We also had a disappointing experience with reception and management before and during the stay. We had booked for November 2024 but canceled our Costa Rica trip because of storms and hurricanes. Other hotels refunded us; this one only offered different dates, so we went in November 2025 instead. After my father's accident, no one at reception checked on him, even though they knew we'd asked where the nearest emergency room was. Restaurant service itself was decent. The views and location make the hotel look luxurious, but in our experience it was badly designed and poorly managed.
