Hotel La Colina

The room was small, dated, and not very clean. Stains on the towels, sheets, and pillowcases made the place feel unhygienic, and cracks in the door frame let insects in. We saw several inside, including a cockroach and large ants. The walls were very thin, so we heard neighboring rooms, street traffic, and a dog barking loudly all night. Being close to the main road made the noise worse. The beach is about a 5-6 minute drive, but walking isn't realistic without a sidewalk, and the traffic felt unsafe. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, with springs plainly felt through the mattress. At Hotel La Colina, the AC was leaking badly when we arrived. To their credit, they fixed it, but hot water was missing for four of our five nights. Staff said the tank was empty and we should let the water run, but it never got resolved during our stay. We tried to make the best of the trip, but these repeated problems and the room's condition made the experience frustrating. I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it.

What really stood out was Jordy's help with my missed catamaran pickup. I had a tight schedule on my first day, and the boat was supposed to collect me about half an hour after I arrived. A bridge on the road from Monteverde made me miss it, but Jordy kept texting to check where I was, then arranged for a cab to wait when I arrived so I could still make it on time. I booked a bunch of tours through the hotel. I chose the place for its restaurant, pool, and Google rating. The pizza was excellent, the rooms were cute, and mine had a little patio and an ocean view. Service was outstanding. The only downside is the many stairs and the steep hill. Highly recommend!

The staff were friendly, but they probably hadn't been sober for at least a month. The room had a very strong moldy smell, the AC and fan didn't work, and it wasn't generally clean. There were plenty of spots on the sheets and pillowcases, and a lot of road noise at night.

The pool water was dirty, the Wi-Fi barely worked in the rooms, and the hotel wasn't kept clean. It’s at the start of town, a long way from the beach. They really need to clean up the place.
