I spent hours reading and writing in the lush garden, with birds singing nearby and howler monkeys calling in the distance. On hot, muggy days, sitting in the cold pool was especially nice. The cabinas are at the Southern end of the beach from downtown Samara, one block back from the beach and easy to reach by a convenient trail. It’s quieter and more peaceful than town, with fabulous sunsets. Breakfast is included each morning, with great coffee and the best scrambled eggs. There’s also a covered outdoor communal kitchen and a fridge for keeping food fresh. Tommy is a great host and knows a lot about the surrounding area. You’ll have a good time here. Pura Vida

Thomas was such a kind, lovely host, and I had some great conversations with the other guests. There are a few sweet kitties around too. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Cabinas del Mar and am glad I came.

The rooms had everything we needed, and we were really close to the beach. Breakfast was great too. This place was great.

We left early because we were worried about basic safety. The walk to Samara is 45 minutes along the beach, including a crossing near an area connected to a river where there are crocodile warnings specific to this for CR. It’s isolated, along a dirt road strip. The main entrance gate wasn’t secured. On the second floor where we stayed, the windows had screens and partial glass slats but no bars, so it seemed very easy for someone to get in. Wind blew the thin curtains aside, which also meant there was no privacy. The room had fans but no AC. There was no hot water, and the shower leaked badly, leaving a lot of standing water. The building looked rundown and didn’t seem fire safe. Breakfast was nice, but we struggled to find much else positive. Budget travel can mean sacrifices, but a much nicer place in the area was available for the same price. For our last night, we booked a king bedroom at another hotel for one dollar more than we’d paid here and had a completely opposite experience.

The rooms were clean, with fans and a mosquito net, and wild animals wandered around the property. It’s just across the road from the beach and about 2 miles from town. Our host was amazing, made sure we were happy, and accommodated all our needs. The place felt like paradise, with beautiful Flora and a little wading pool to cool off. We really enjoyed our stay, and I’d highly recommend Jammy and her property to anyone traveling here.
