We paid €36 (20 000CRC) for the night at Villa Zurqui, and came away quite satisfied. The grounds are lovely, with flowers, trees, and greenery everywhere, and the team was nice and helpful. It’s especially well placed if you’re heading to Tortuguero the next day, right before the highway toll entrance. Each room is its own little house, with a terraced patio, round table, and benches. Inside, the rooms were clean and very spacious, though minimally furnished, with little equipment or decoration and no refrigerator. Breakfast was free, simple, tasty, and well prepared, with all the essentials. There were a few rusty bits and some mold in a corner, but nothing dramatic for this price range. Road noise is audible and hard to avoid given the location. The rate is very competitive, and the good points feel above what you’d expect at this price, while the small flaws fit it.

We arrived late, but check-in was fine. Breakfast was very good, and the garden was nice, with lots of birds. The staff were kind. Being near ruta 32 made for an easy start in the morning.

The peaceful setting and beautiful views made this a great place to slow down and enjoy Costa Rica. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and easy to reach whenever we needed them. Housekeeping and the grounds were wonderful. This feels like our new home away from home.

The weather was perfect during my stay, with cool nights and most of the day staying comfortable. There was a little shower one night, but that’s Costa Rica. The garden walkways make this a lovely place for a romantic stay. The surrounding little mountains reminded me of the Alps. The people were absolutely great, and the manager was really cool and easy to get along with. There was no hostility here.

After visiting San Jose, I wanted to spend a night outside the city and found this gem about 40 minutes away. It was a pleasant surprise, with great hospitality and peaceful surroundings. There are gardens, a pond, and walking paths across the grounds, plus lovely floral landscaping. Breakfast was provided with unlimited coffee and oj. I also met the owner, and there’s secure parking. What a find. I’ll definitely return.
