It's in a relatively safe area, within walking distance of places to eat, parks, street art, museums, and the historic central market, with lots of San Jose shopping nearby. If you like older boutique hotels with warm, welcoming traditions instead of corporate cookie-cutter places, this is a good stay. The property has old-school good vibes and is good value.

The room smelled strongly of mold, and the lack of air conditioning made it unbearable and unsuitable for rest or recovery. I was staying during a medical procedure, and what should have been a calm, safe place became a health hazard. We had planned 15 nights but had to leave after just 4 days because the conditions were so poor. There was no ice, water, or vending machine, and the bar and restaurant were closed without warning. With no refrigerator, storing medication or basic food wasn't possible. Loud music from the front desk played all night, every night, so we couldn't sleep or get any peace. The cleanliness was unacceptable too: there was a dirty towel on the floor when we arrived, overflowing trash cans, and not even a box of tissues. At checkout, we raised our concerns and front desk staff assured us we'd be refunded for the unused 11 nights. When we followed up, manager Esteban Coronel refused. We had to pay out of pocket again to book a nearby Airbnb. The combination of poor cleanliness, no air conditioning, and no access to basics like water or refrigeration created a serious health risk, especially given our medical circumstances.

We were in town for a medical procedure and needed ice for swelling, but there was none. There was also no bottled water, air conditioning, or advertised bar. Our room had trash in the cans and a wet, dirty towel on the floor. The mold smell was terrible and made me cough. We booked 15 days, left on day 4, and they refused to refund the remaining 11 days. They also made up lies to Expedia to justify it. The worst place ever. Do NOT stay here, you'll regret it.
