For such a low price, the value is good, as long as you know what to expect. I’d choose it for one night near the town center, but not for a longer stay. The people were friendly, the common areas looked nicely decorated, and their well-groomed cat was adorable.

There was dirt all over the bed, so I’m taking off a star. I wouldn’t book here. They lock the door with no way in or out, and there’s no 24-hour reception. As a night owl, I couldn’t even get out to buy water. Thinking about it, that also feels like a serious fire hazard, since guests could be trapped inside. The place is otherwise okay, but a bit expensive for the service and rooms, especially when there are cheaper options. Hotel Quinta Avenida is 5mil cheaper, with helpful staff, 24-hour reception, a full bathroom and shower in each room, and rooms twice the size. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

We stayed more than two weeks while handling a visa renewal, and they moved us to a larger room at no extra charge when our plans ran longer than expected. It’s in a safe, secure area, and everything is within walking distance. The hotel itself was comfortable and quiet. I’ll use it again for overnight stays in San Jose.

The common area has some fun decorative pieces, and if you’re lucky, you might meet Emma, the house cat. She’s one of the most likable cats I’ve met. The rooms are clean, the price is budget-friendly, and the location is central in San José near Sabana Park. The people running the place are warm and friendly.
