The neighborhood is what most comments mention. During the day it seemed more or less fine, but at night there are lots of people out because bars and dives are right across the street. My friends and I walked around after dark and nothing happened, people just looked at us. One night I went two blocks for quesadillas, feeling nervous and prepared for someone to ask for money, but no one did. I have fair skin, and I can understand feeling uneasy; if you’re scared, take a taxi in and out. Greetings from a Mexican, and make the most of the price and opportunity. The hotel itself is a great value and very economical. Breakfast saves a little money, though it’s the same every day. It’s also convenient for exchanging dollars, at a rate only a little below the bank’s, right there at the hotel.

The hotel itself is nice, but the location is unattractive, like walking into the La Merced market area in Mexico. They call breakfast a buffet, though it only has gallo pinto, and yogurt costs extra.

There are phone lines for making calls everywhere, and the place has what a traveler needs for a stay. The area is the concern, it’s dangerous and a red zone. Wear simple clothes that won’t draw attention when you go out.

Comfortable and cute, though it’s not elegant.
