I asked for a refund because the conditions meant I needed to find somewhere else to stay, but the host refused. They said bugs in the bed were “normal” in a woodland setting, which seemed absurd to me. I've stayed in other Airbnb places in Costa Rica's woods over the past few weeks, and none were dirty. As a chalet owner myself, I've never found bugs under pillows or sheets. When we checked into our Airbnb on February 27th at 2:47 PM, I inspected the bed and found a live bed worm and a large dead bug among the sheets. Looking more closely, I found two more live worms, dust, and a yellow stain. I contacted the host on WhatsApp, Airbnb, and Instagram right away to ask for clean sheets and cleaning. After two hours, the host replied without apologizing and said someone would come. I waited in my car, but nobody showed up until 7:23 PM. The cleaner replaced the inner white sheets, but not the top sheet. When we went back in, the same worm was still there on the pillow in the same spot. The customer service during our stay was unsatisfactory, and the host's replies felt condescending. If live and dead bugs in the bedding are fine with you, this Airbnb may suit you, since the host considers them “normal” and “uncontrollable.” Enjoy.
